There is a falacy that the Single Mothers Benefit was intoduced in 1973 by the Whitlam Government
but this is not true as the following documents can verify
The 1958 NSW Welfare Workers Manual clearly give mothers rights which included
Financial Assistance
Foster care provisions
And when these options were exhausted
The mother had to be warned of dire future regret if she surrendered her baby for adoption
